Down 5 pounds

The season of Christmas is great for starting a "get better" plan. Right?
I come home and my wife has baked delicious cookies for friends.... friends bring big tamales for christmas... chocolates.... cookies. The office has 2 Christmas partes... outings at restaurants and coming....  (Delicious) Christmas dinner.

In spite of that Ive managed to exercise 3 days a week. Basically playing tennis and some swimming. Ive tried to eat small amounts of food in despite all in front of me. I am down to 180 pounds. But that can change quickly... if I am not careful.

Well, yesterday, I played tennis for about an hour and a half. I played with my instructor for the first hour and the rest with my 14 yr. old daughter, Mariana. She is hitting the ball very well now. 3 classes a week are doing great for her. I played 4 times with the instructor in the last 3 months, and tried to challenge him every one of those. To no avail. Second time I was leading 5 games to 2 and he came back and beat me. Last time I could not get a game out of him in a set. So in this opportunity we were juts volleying for the whole hour. I really have not played tennis steadily in the last 15 years. Only played once in a while with a friend. Here in Guatemala, once in a while I hit a few balls with Mariana or Nancy. So more exercise is good for me now.

I ate decently too, except when I got home, Nancy was baking her incredible Christmas cookies and had the kitchen counters full of them. Needless to say I could not resist... but did not over do myself either.

Well today I was on to a good start. In the last 3 days, I was getting to the office only about 10 minutes before 8 am. Not good enough. So instead of 6:30 I got up at 5:30. This really made a difference. Because I was able to run for 40 minutes (2.37 miles or 3.8 kilometers or barely 300 calories dead). Now the good thing is that instead of having zombies chasing me with the app, I read the scriptures and the feeling is great. In my iPad, read 3.5 chapters at the time I was listening to the voice that comes with the app to follow your reading of the scriptures. I paused it a lot and made some annotations but it was great.

Did some stretching at the end.

I better rest a day or two. And I will, Saturday and Sunday, cause Ive been hitting it every day and don't want to over do it. My right heap hurts and I am worried. I hope I can just stretch the pain out. Last time I tried to go exercising steady to fast I ended up getting a lot of nuclear scans because of the pain in the hip. One doctor scared me saying I possibly had cancer and wanted me to use crouches for 3 months. I decided not to believe him. I was told at the end that I had a rupture in the cartilage that holds the femur ball of the hip. So I went to therapy and I doped exercise . I eased the pain following the stretching technics I was taught. Just now I hope that I can do it again, but with exercise included. I better go slow. I am always anxious when it comes to getting things done. I always tend to feel more capable than I am, and that helps in many other things. But not with your body. You have to take it easy. Need to say that I am not starting from scratch. I keep in shape going up 5 floors twice a day, run a day a o two week for 20 minutes play tennis once in a while, and try to walk whenever I can. I don't eat like a .... either. I am in fair shape, just want to be near the shape when I was 40.
Ill rest a couple of days and just stretch out a little.

See you monday.

Not a bad start. I feel great I accomplished my first two goals. Yesterday created the blog and played tennis, have an appointment for tomorrow. Today I got up at 6:30 and run for 20 minutes and worked out 10. I ran 1.3 miles. Or sort of cause machined sopped while y moved a program button. Really?

Run Zombie is OK, at least motivated me to get up and start. But being spanish my first language, the British accent makes it hard for me to follow. Also my iTunes music did not want to play as background and space filler. Ill se what I can do.

Se you later, perhaps tomorrow.
Ah, by the way I feel zoo good with moving more body parts and catching some more breath.

Not a bad first day. Played tennis for an hour. Ran for 15 minutes as a warm up and had a good balanced dinner. Not to say I wrote my blog. I asked Nancy to both join a Gym that we checked out the other day but she said she did not like the environment there. I am now booking two tennis appointments a week and I know for sure I will exercise at least another two days. I'll find my routine soon.

Tomorrow morning Ill get my exercise gear and my iPhone app, Run Zombies see what happens.

I know Ill be moving. My office hours start at 8 but I usually try to get there half an hour early I'll have to rush and get there 15 minutes earlier now. I'll let you know what happens. Do you think I can reach my goal. Any recommendations?

Today is the first day.

Hi my name is Adrian and I'm 59. I want to start a better exercise routine. Today, I excersize randomly, eat not excessively and sleep without a routine. But I surely want to be in greater shape. I want to be able to have more energy, live longer and serve better. I want to enjoy my wife, children and grandchildren, whenever they come, more and more.
I want to continue learning and giving. I want to be more ALIVE¡

The first day

This is it, I've created a blog to get me to March & 2014.

That day I turn 60. That is:

95 days
3 months 5 days
13 weeks 4 days
69 weekdays
0.26th of a year

All this, according to Siri on my iPhone.

My plan is to start exercising and eating better.
I can say I feel grateful for the way I look and perform. Heavenly Father has being so generous with me, keeping me healthy. But I can surely do a better job taking care of myself.
Here is a typical look bad photo of myself to be able to monitor the improvements.

I weight 185 pounds.

Here are my 10  basic 60 and Performing 40 motivation goals.

1- Stop trying so hard. I will just enjoy the ride and will not try to hard.

2- What happens if I stop now? How about in 10 yrs? I will perform, look and feel bad. Probably get sick. Think...think.

3- Keep all promises. To make sure I can keep them to myself, I will make sure I keep my promises to others. I don't do bad at all now.

4- I felt great right after. After every workout, I will analyze and record my feelings. This will motivate. Feel like I've reached my goal.

5- This is my plan to perform like 40 at 60:

  • To weight 170 with body tone and resistance.
  • Reward midway ( 175.5),  get me a present every 3 pounds off (wife, children, welcome) and celebrate small performing goals. 3 straight days, one week, 15 days, 1 month, 2 months and final trip celebration.
  • Hang my photo when I was 40 near the mirror and hang an old outfit that will suit me when I reach goal.
  • Weight myself each only each week or two.
  • Set stage. Things around my wardrobe and home meet to remind me of my goal.
  • Create a list of good outcomes.
  • Read scriptures and then sleep at 10:30
  • I will start using the Zombie 5k iPhone app. Then move forward accordingly to new ways. I'll drastically reduce sugar, bread and salt. Will get on my training outfit every morning at 6:30 and take it from there. That is it.
8- Get a trainer and compete. Share with Nancy. She is my main motivation. Pray that we can live long together, health. Serve and travel enjoying life.

9- Document with pictures. Start blog. Here it is¡

10- Put my hand in my hart and stop critiquing myself. I'll do this every time I find myself desanimado.

Well, this is the first day of the rest of my life.... good luck to me¡
